Why you may hear ads while using the Xbox Music app in Windows 8

Overview

We’ll play occasional ads when you’re streaming free songs from the music app in Windows 8 and Windows RT. You’ll never get ads when you’re playing MP3s that are on your PC or when you’re playing music you bought from Xbox Music.

Here’s when you’ll get ads:

  • When you play anything you don’t own while browsing All Music or Top Songs
  • When you match your MP3s with songs from Xbox Music and then stream those songs to other PCs running Windows 8 or Windows RT
  • When songs you don’t own come up in Radio, an artist’s top songs, or one of your playlists
  • When you add songs from Xbox Music to your music and then play them from your collection

To listen without ever getting ads, copy your MP3s to all of your PCs. Or, even easier: sign up for an Xbox Music Pass.
