To add your locally stored music to the Music app in Windows 8, follow these steps:
Note If your music is stored externally (for example, on a USB flash drive or an external hard drive), you can copy or move the content to any folder that is listed in the Music Library Locations window, and the Music app will then detect the content.
If you have music stored on a network or network access storage (NAS) drive, note that the Music app currently only supports content stored on network shares hosted by Windows operating systems. Windows Search and Desktop Experience features must be installed and Indexing enabled for the share. Once these are installed and enabled, you may have to rebuild the index to have network shares function correctly with the Music app.
