Closed captions in Xbox videos

Overview

Closed captions let you read the words that are spoken in the audio part of a video or television show. When closed captioning is turned on, closed captions are usually displayed at the bottom of your TV screen, monitor, or other video-display device. Closed captions are usually used by people with hearing disabilities and also by viewers who would rather read than listen to the audio portion of a video.
This page explains how to turn on closed captions for Xbox Music or Xbox Video content that you're watching on your Xbox 360 console or on your computer.

Turning on closed captions on your Xbox 360 console

Note If you enable closed captions on your Xbox 360 console, you'll see closed captions on all closed caption-enabled video content that you play on your console.

On your console, go to Settings and select Console Settings.

Select Display.
Select Closed Caption.
To see closed captions in the default Media Settings view, click Use Media Setting.
To personalize closed captions, click Use customer style and follow the steps to customize the closed captions for the following:
- Background color
- Background transparency
- Caption effect
- Color (of letters)
- Size (of letters)
- Style (of letters)
- Windows color
- Windows transparency

Turning on closed captions on your Windows 8-based computer

On a Windows 8-based computer that's playing a video, click anywhere on the screen. Settings will appear on the right side of the screen.
Click Captions.
Customize how closed captions will be displayed on your screens. You can customize the following:
- Character color
- Character transparency
- Character size
- Font style
- Caption background color
- Background transparency
Click Save.
