Add videos to Xbox Video on Windows 8 or Windows RT

Add your own videos to the Video app

To add your locally stored videos to Xbox Video on Windows 8 or Windows RT:

  1. At the Windows 8 or Windows RT Start screen, tap or click the Desktop tile. This will open the classic desktop view.
  2. Tap or click File Explorer (the manila folder icon next to the Internet Explorer icon).
  3. Under Libraries, tap or click Videos.
  4. Tap or click Manage on the ribbon.
  5. Tap or click Manage Library.
  6. Tap or click the Add button.
  7. Tap or click the folder where your videos are stored, and then tap or click Include Folder.
  8. Tap or click OK, wait for the changes to be applied, and then restart the Video app to make the new files appear.

Note If your video content is stored externally (for example, on a USB flash drive or an external hard drive), you can copy or move the content to any folder that is listed in the Video Library Locations window, and then the Video app will detect the content.

If you have videos stored on a network or network access storage (NAS) drive, note that the Video app currently only supports content stored on network shares hosted by Windows operating systems. Windows Search and Desktop Experience features must be installed and Indexing enabled for the share. Once these are installed and enabled, you may have to rebuild the index to have network shares function correctly with the Video app.
