“Sorry, we can’t change your Microsoft account right now“ error occurs when changing your Microsoft account information

You get the following error message when you try to change your Microsoft account information:

Sorry, we can’t change your Microsoft account right now

This might mean that it’s been less than 30 days since you made your last account change. You can make only one Microsoft account change for any Xbox Live gamertag every 30 days. This may also mean that you have a balance on your account that needs to be spent before you can make changes.

Note After you download your gamertag from Xbox Live, you also must wait 30 days before you can switch that gamertag to a different Microsoft account.

Solutions

To resolve this problem, try the following solutions.

Solution 1: Use up any remaining funds in your account

This error will occur if you try to make changes to your Microsoft account while you still have a balance. You must spend any remaining funds before you can make changes to your account, or before you switch your gamertag.

Solution 2: Wait 30 days

Try your Microsoft account change again after 30 days have passed.

Once 30 days have passed since the last account change, you’ll be able to update your Microsoft account.

If you aren’t sure when you last made changes, you can review a recent activity log for your account:

  1. Sign in to your Microsoft account at account.microsoft.com.
  2. Select Security and Privacy.
  3. Under Account Security, select See my recent activity.

Solution 3: Sign in using the primary Microsoft account for billing

If you’ve purchased an app or have multiple Microsoft subscriptions, you may have more than one billing account. Make sure the Microsoft account to which you want to make changes has only one billing account associated with it. See How to change or update Xbox Live billing account information.

Solution 4: Make sure your Microsoft account security information is up to date

Make sure that the security information on your Microsoft account is current and up to date. To do so, see Verify the security information for your Microsoft account.
