What kind of Xbox Live Gold trials are eligible?

You’re eligible if you’re on an Xbox Live Gold one-month free trial.

What if I’m on a 14-day prepaid code trial and I upgrade to Xbox Live Gold during the trial period to take advantage of a free game offer? Will I get the game?

If you upgrade to Xbox Live Gold during the duration of your 14-day prepaid code trial, your Xbox Live Gold subscription will not start until the end of your trial period. As such, you will not be eligible to download a currently offered free game until your trial period ends and your paid subscription begins.

Can a child download mature content through Games with Gold?

The Games with Gold program respects all Xbox parental control settings. Any restrictions set on purchasing mature content will be applied to child accounts when downloading the titles offered through Games with Gold.

Do I get to keep the games?

For Xbox One, you can play them as long as you have an active Xbox Live Gold subscription. Xbox 360 free games are yours to keep.

What happens if I miss a game?

Unfortunately, once a download period for a specific game has ended, you won't be able to go back and download that game.

How do I download the games?

You can download the games on your console, or go to, click on the “Download from Xbox Store” button, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Where can I find my game after I’ve downloaded it?

For Xbox One, see Find Xbox One content that you’ve downloaded.

For Xbox 360, see How to re-download previously downloaded or purchased content to your Xbox 360.

What if I get an error while trying to download a game?

If you're having trouble downloading a game, check for service alerts on the Xbox Live Status page, or see if an Xbox Live service alert appears at the top of this page. If there are any service alerts, wait a while and then try again.

US customers only: If a specific service or app is experiencing an outage, you can request SMS or voice notification when the outage is resolved. Under the app or service name, click Notify me when this service or app is up and running.

If Xbox Live is up and running, make sure you're signed in with the gamertag that has the Xbox Live Gold subscription. If you’re signed in with the right gamertag, try searching for the error on the Error & Status Code Search page.

What if I don’t get an error but I’m still having trouble downloading a game?

If you don’t get an error message but are having issues downloading a game, see Problems downloading and installing a game or an app on Xbox One, or Xbox Live content won’t download on your Xbox 360 console.

What if I can't access Games with Gold even though I have a paid subscription?

When you try to access Games with Gold, make sure you're using the same gamertag that has the Xbox Live Gold subscription. If you redeemed a promotional Xbox Live Gold token as part of your subscription, you won’t be eligible for Games with Gold. If you used a prepaid code to sign up for Xbox Live Gold, make sure it was successfully redeemed.

If you live in one of the countries or regions listed above under “Offer and eligibility,” and you still can’t access Games with Gold, contact Xbox Support.
