Xbox 360 Play & Charge Kit doesn’t charge when connected to a wireless controller

This behavior can occur for one or more of the following reasons:

  • The battery has reached the charge limit.
  • There is a problem with the charge cable.
  • There is a problem with the battery.

Try to determine which part of the recharging system is causing the problem.

Xbox 360 Wireless Controller

Try using fresh AA batteries or try a different Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack in the controller to make sure nothing is wrong with the controller. If the controller works with different batteries, the controller isn't causing the problem.

Xbox 360 Play and Charge cable

Try a different Play and Charge cable to charge the battery. If the battery charges correctly with a different charge cable, the original charge cable is faulty.

Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack
  • Use a cotton swab and some isopropyl alcohol to clean the four gold contacts on the battery pack and on the wireless controller.
  • Try a different Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack with the charge cable. If the second battery charges correctly, the original battery is faulty.

Once you've determined the source of the problem, replace or exchange the faulty part.

Rechargeable batteries eventually wear out. The length of time that a rechargeable battery lasts depends on how frequently you use the battery and how frequently you charge the battery. If you use the battery frequently, the battery won't last as long as if you use the battery only occasionally.

Wired headset doesn’t work

Disconnect and reconnect the headset firmly to the controller's connector. If this does not solve the problem see You cannot hear sound from the Xbox 360 Wired Headset.
