Overview

picture

The new Xbox 360 Media Remote helps you maximize your Xbox experience. It does so, by allowing you to control your Xbox 360 DVD and CD playback, your media playback through Xbox Live or TV service on your Xbox 360 console, the Xbox Dashboard, and the power and volume controls for many TVs.

Watch the following video for an overview of the Xbox 360 Media Remote.

Program the media remote for your TV

Before your media remote can work with your television set, you need to program it for use with your particular brand of TV. There are two ways to program your media remote: manually entering your TV code or scanning to find your TV code.

Note After 30 seconds of inactivity, the media remote will exit the TV programming mode. Pressing any button besides Select, 0–9, or Channel Up/Down returns the media remote to its original mode and ends programming mode.

Watch the following video to see how to program the media remote for your TV.

Enter a TV code

You can look up your code on our website and then enter the code using your remote control.

  1. Look up the code for your TV. See the complete list of codes (PDF).
  2. Press and hold the Mute and 5 buttons simultaneously for two seconds to enter TV programming mode.
  3. Enter the numeric code for your TV.
  4. Press the Select button to save the code and exit.

When the correct code has been entered, you should be able to press the TV Power button and the Volume button on the remote to control your TV. If it doesn’t work, return to step 2.

Notes
  • The media remote light will be solid green when in TV code programming mode.
  • The media remote light will briefly turn off for each number you enter; only enter the next number after the green light turns back on.
  • When you press Select, the media remote light will flash three times to confirm your code. If it does not flash, an invalid code was entered, so return to step 2.
Scan for a TV code

You can send a sequence of codes to from your remote to your TV to find the right code for your TV, if you do not know it.

  1. Turn on your TV and point the media remote toward it.
  2. Press and hold the Mute and 5 buttons simultaneously for two seconds to enter TV programming mode.
  3. Press the Channel Up button repeatedly to send one code per button press from your media remote to your TV. By pressing Channel Up, you advance the code each time.
  4. When the correct code is sent from the media remote to your TV, your TV will turn off. Press the Select button to confirm your code.

If your TV turns off but you then accidently continue to press Channel Up to continue past the correct code, press Channel Down to go back to the correct code. Your TV will turn on again when you go back to the correct code. Press the Select button to confirm your code.

Notes
  • The media remote light will be solid green when in TV code programming mode.
  • If you press Channel Down, then Channel Up (or Channel Up, then Channel Down) to change scan direction and return to your original code during one TV programming mode scan, the media remote will exit TV programming mode. Your remote will be set at the same code it was at when you started TV programming.
  • Allow enough time for the TV to respond to the command and turn off after you press the Channel Up/Down button. Some TVs take more time to react to the off command than other TVs.
  • When you press Select, the media remote light will flash three times to confirm your code.
  • When the correct code has been entered, you should be able to press the TV Power button and the Volume button on the remote to control your TV. If it doesn’t work, return to step 2.
Return media remote to default settings

In default settings, the media remote will only control the Xbox 360 console. Volume and Mute buttons will control TV service through your Xbox 360 console.

  1. Press and hold the Mute and 5 buttons simultaneously for two seconds to enter TV programming mode.
  2. Enter code 9999 and press Select.
