On your console, sign in with your Xbox Live gamertag. (Xbox Live Gold Membership is required.)
Go to apps, and then select Browse Apps. Browse for and select MTV to download and install the app. After the download, the app automatically starts, and you can browse through and view details about the available content.
To start the MTV app later, go to video, My Video Apps, and then MTV.
Log in with your TV provider
On the Welcome to MTV screen you have two options:
log in with your TV provider–Select this tile to continue with the activation process.
continue without login–This option allows you to browse, but you can’t play content until you’ve logged in.
On the Select Your Provider screen, you’ll see a list of approved TV providers. If your TV provider is on the list, select it. If your provider isn’t listed, you will not be able to log in. Check back often, though, as new providers will continue to be added.
After you select your provider, the Activation screen will display instructions and an activation code.
On a PC or other internet-enabled device, go to mtv.com/activate and enter the activation code that was displayed on your Xbox screen.
Based on the code entered, you should see the provider that matches the code you entered. Select the provider.
Note If the provider listed is not correct, click change provider and then select your provider from the list shown.
Enter the user ID (user name) and password for your account with your TV provider to log in and activate the MTV app.
If your user name and password are correct, a “Success!” message will be displayed on both the webpage and your Xbox screen. In Xbox, select mtv home to enter the app.
Go to video, My Video Apps, and then MTV.
From the featured hub, you can watch any of the featured programs displayed in the center or select view all to browse additional featured content.
Navigate to these additional hubs to browse content:
shows – Browse for the latest episodes of your favorite shows.
quickies – Browse short video clips by genre.
search – Search for content by title.
Select something to watch, and then select Play.
Use Family Settings to control access to content
If you use Family Settings to control what kinds of programs can be watched through Xbox Live on your console, the MTV app will follow those settings. For example, if you prohibit viewing of TV-MA-rated TV shows, those programs will be marked with a "restricted video" icon in the MTV app. To play a restricted item, an adult must enter the Family Settings pass code.
