Xbox Live connection problems

The YouTube app doesn’t respond

If the YouTube app is not responding, delete and reinstall it. Here’s how:

  1. From the Xbox Dashboard, go to settings and then System.
  2. Select Storage.
  3. Select your primary storage device.
  4. Select Games and Apps.
  5. Find and highlight the <XYZ> app. Press the Y button to access Game Options.
  6. Select Delete, and then confirm that you want to delete all items related to the app.
  7. Go back to the Dashboard.
  8. Go to apps and then to Browse Apps or Search Apps.
  9. Browse or search for the YouTube app and then select it.
  10. Select Download and then Confirm Purchase to download and install the app.

If the app still doesn't respond, contact Xbox Support.

Error messages

You may get one of the following error messages when you try to use the YouTube app.

Connectivity errors

  • Can’t connect to the YouTube Service. Error code: 0C01/8009/0304
  • Sorry, YouTube isn't available right now. Please try again later. For more information, go to www.xbox.com/status.

To resolve the error, follow these steps:

  1. Check the status of the YouTube service.
  2. If the YouTube service is up and running, wait for approximately one minute and then try again to start the app or play the content.
  3. If you continue to receive one of these error messages, delete and then reinstall the YouTube app.

If none of these suggestions solves the problem, contact Xbox Support.

Account errors

  • Account pairing was not successful. Please try again later.

To resolve the error, follow these steps:

  1. If you see this error message, it means that your YouTube account was not linked successfully with your Xbox gamertag. Please check your credentials and try the activation process again.
  2. If you continue to see this error message when you try to log in, close the app, start the app again, and then try to sign in. For more help with this error, go to the YouTube console support page.
  • For full access, you need a YouTube account. You need to sign in.

    To resolve the error, follow this step:

    1. To use a YouTube account with the app, link your YouTube account to the gamertag that is associated with your Xbox Live account.

Availability errors

  • Sorry, but the item you requested to view ({0}) is no longer available.
  • Sorry, the item you're interested in is no longer available
  • Sorry, this video cannot be played.
  • Sorry, but we cannot display the item you requested to view

To resolve the error, follow these steps:

  1. Wait for approximately one minute. Then, try to play the content again.
  2. If you continue to receive the error, please return to the previous menu and select a different piece of content to watch.
To notify YouTube of the content error, please contact YouTube Help.

If you experience one of the following errors, delete the app and go to the Store to download the latest version.
  • The app sits on a spinner on the splash screen until a "YouTube is Unavailable" message appears.
  • Some content is shown, but some types of navigation/searches result in spinners with "YouTube is Unavailable" messages.
  • The app gets to the home screen, but it doesn't display any content.
  • Content is shown, but playback results in a playback error message.
  • Content is shown, but playback results in a video stating there’s an error.

Performance errors

  • The current network cannot support quality video playback. The current video has been paused and you may choose to continue at a later time.

To resolve the error, follow this step:

  1. Go to Issues with connection speed or disconnects to improve your network performance.

Parental control errors

  • Xbox Live child accounts are not allowed to use this application

Xbox Live child account users are not allowed to sign in to or start the YouTube app on your console.

  • This app provides access to unrated video content

This warning is shown when an Xbox Live teen account user signs in to the YouTube app. They are allowed to use the YouTube app, but, based on their content permission level, may not be able to change the YouTube safety mode setting from Strict to Moderate or Off. To enable this, the Family Settings permissions need to be changed by an adult account on the console. Regional errors

  • Video cannot be played in your country/region

The video copyright holder or YouTube doesn't allow the selected video to be played in the country or region where you live or where your gamertag was created.
