Stream media using Zune or Windows Media Player

Overview

You can stream music, pictures, and video to your Xbox 360 console from your computer using Windows Media Player or the Zune software.

Note If you want to use Windows Media Center to stream content from your computer to your console, please see Using Windows Media Center with Xbox 360.

Step 1: Connect your console to your network

Connect your console to your home network using a wired or wireless connection.

Step 2: Set up Zune or Windows Media Player

Which software do you want to use?

Zune
  1. Open Zune and then click Settings.

  2. Click Software, Xbox 360.

  3. Select the media types you want to share, and then click OK.

Note You can download the Zune software from Zune.net.

Windows Media Player 12 (Windows 7)
  1. In Windows Media Player, click the Stream menu and then select Turn on media streaming.

  2. On the page that appears, click Turn on media streaming.

  3. Name your media library and click OK.

Note You can download Windows Media Player from windows.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/windows-media-player.

Windows Media Player 11 (Windows Vista)
  1. In Windows Media Player, right-click Library, and then click Media Sharing.

  2. Click Share my media, and then OK.
  3. Windows Media Player will search for devices on your network. Xbox 360 should appear with a green check mark.

  4. If you want to apply more options, click Settings.

  5. When you're done, click OK.
  6. Note You can download Windows Media Player from windows.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/windows-media-player.

Step 3: Play or view media

  1. Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Media, and select either Music Player or Video Player depending on the type of media you want to play.

  2. Select the name of your computer.
  3. Note If the name of your computer is not listed, select Computer and then Test Connection.

  4. Select the item you want to play or view.
