You see the following error message when you try to install a program for the Xbox 360 Media Center Extender on Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 with Service Pack 3 (SP3):
Setup Error
There is a problem with the installation of Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005. Uninstall the update to Media Center Edition 2005 and then re-install the update from the Windows Update website. Then run the Xbox 360 Setup again.
This issue may occur if an entry is missing from the registry. When you install a program for the Xbox 360 Media Center Extender, the program checks for the registry entry. If the registry key is missing, the program is not installed.
Note This issue does not occur if the following conditions are true:
To resolve this issue, verify that the registry entry exists on the computer that is running Windows XP Media Center Edition. To do this, use one of the following methods:
Method 1: Update Windows XP Media Center Edition
To resolve this issue, install the Update for Windows XP (KB895961) package, and then try to install the program again.
Method 2: Remove Windows XP SP3 temporarily
To temporarily uninstall Windows XP SP3, follow these steps on the computer that is running Windows XP Media Center Edition:
Copy and then paste (or type) the following command in the Open box, and then press Enter:
appwiz.cpl
Method 3: Automatically or manually add the registry entry

To automatically fix this problem, run the automatic Fix it file. Click Run in the File Download dialog box, and then follow the steps in the wizard.

After you complete the steps in the wizard, try to install the program again. If the program does not install, try one of the other methods or contact Support.
Manually add the registry key
