Use Bing search to find content

Note Bing search on Xbox will search through any content available via Xbox LIVE Marketplace in your region only. It does not search the web, or any other content sources outside of the downloads and streaming options available in your Xbox LIVE region.

To search Xbox LIVE Marketplace for content, you need to be connected to Xbox LIVE (sign in using your Xbox LIVE gamertag). To find out how to connect to Xbox LIVE, see Wired connection or Wireless connection.

Note This feature is not currently available in Japan.

You can use Bing search in one of two ways:

• Using Kinect voice commands
• Using a controller or chatpad

If you have a Kinect sensor connected to your Xbox 360 console, you can just say what you want to find. Say "Xbox Bing…" and then whatever you want to search for.

Note Bing voice search is currently available only in English, in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

1. From the Xbox Dashboard, go to Bing.
2. Press A on your controller to bring up the on-screen keyboard, or type your search text using an Xbox 360 Chatpad.

Once you see the search results, you can filter the results using the green filter button in the top left corner of the screen. For example, if you want to see the music results for Halo, select the filter button, and choose Music.

Here are some things to try if Xbox Bing search doesn't find the item you are looking for:

• Try to shorten your search to one or two key words, to see if this helps return the content you want.
• If the content is new, it may not be in our search database yet. Try browsing for content in the Games, Music, Video, or Apps Marketplace.

If Bing voice search doesn’t find the things you say, here are some things to try:

There are several reasons why Bing voice search may not understand you:

Try to reduce the amount of background noise in your room, if possible. It may help to move your sensor to a location where it can hear you better.

Kinect audio calibration can help calibrate and tune your Kinect sensor microphone for your room. Try using the Kinect audio tuner. Here’s how:

1. Press the Guide button on your controller.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Select Kinect Tuner.
4. Select Audio.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Try to speak slowly, loudly, and in a clear voice when you’re using Bing search.

Kinect may have trouble recognizing an accent or certain words. If your search result is still not being returned properly, try using a text search.

Depending on the position of your Kinect sensor, there may be other objects or electronics nearby that are interfering with the microphone.

• Do not place your Kinect sensor on top of a speaker or other object that makes noise or vibrates.
• Do not place your sensor on top of another electronic device. A device that has an exhaust fan can interfere with the microphone.
• Do not block the microphones on your Kinect sensor. There are multiple microphones along the bottom, front edge of the Kinect sensor.

Some long or complicated search terms may be difficult for Bing search to recognize. Try a shorter or simplified search, and see if the same problem occurs. If your search term is still not recognized, try searching with the on-screen keyboard or chatpad.

Just as with Xbox LIVE content, you may use Family Settings to restrict what content will be returned and accessed in Bing search. For example, if you wish to restrict access to adult-rated movies or shows, you can do this through the built-in parental controls of your Xbox.
