Error 80167611 or 80169E7F occurs when signing in or making a purchase on Xbox 360

You see one of the following error messages when trying to sign in or make a purchase on your Xbox 360 console:

Can't retrieve information from Xbox Live.
80167611

Can't retrieve information from Xbox Live.
80169E7F

This may mean one of the following:

  • There's a temporary problem with the Xbox Live service.
  • There's a problem with your payment option.

Solutions

To resolve this problem, try the following solutions.

Solution 1: Check the Xbox Live service status

Go to the Xbox Live status page to see whether the service is up and running. If there are any service alerts, please wait a while and then try again.

Solution 2: Delete and then re-add your payment option

  1. Go to commerce.microsoft.com and sign in using your Microsoft account email address and password.
    Note If you see a message stating that there's a problem with your account, follow the steps to resolve the issue.
  2. Verify your billing information. For example, verify that:
    • Your payment option is valid and has been activated.
    • Your billing information is the same billing information used by your bank or credit card company.
    • There is no outstanding balance.
    Note To resolve billing and membership issues, go to the Xbox Live Billing and Memberships Solution and click on "I want to manage my Xbox Live payment."
  3. Remove the payment option from your account.
  4. Delete the Marketplace System Data file on your Xbox 360 console. Here's how:
    1. On your console, go to settings, and then select System.
    2. Select Storage.

  3. Select Marketplace System Data.
  4. Select Delete.
  5. Restart your console.
  1. Go to commerce.microsoft.com and add the payment option to your account.
