Error messages

You may get one of the following error messages when you try to use cloud storage to manage your game saves and data.

  • Cloud storage is only available to Xbox Live Gold members

An Xbox Live Gold membership is required in order to store game saves in the cloud via your Cloud Saved Games storage device.

For information on how to move content, see Copy, move, or delete Xbox saved games, profiles, and avatar items.

  • Saved games are still uploading on another console. If you continue, you may lose progress.

This means the saved game was accessed from another console and has unsaved changes that need to be uploaded to the cloud. If you choose to use this saved game meanwhile, you may lose recent changes to it.

  • Items in use on the other console
  • Items on another console are pending uploaded for this game or app

This item is either in use on another console or pending upload on another console. To solve this problem, you need to sign in to the console that is trying to update the game save so that the cloud save can be completed. To do this, do the following:

    1. Sign in to your Xbox Live profile.
    2. Go to settings, and then select System.
    3. Select Storage.
    4. Select the storage device that contains the saved game that you want to move to the cloud.
    5. Select Games.
    6. Select the game with your saved game.
    7. Select your saved game.
    8. Select Move.
    9. Select Cloud Saved Games.
  • Your cloud saved games are out of sync
Your cloud saved games and the saved game copies on your console are out of sync. Which do you want to use?

If you receive this message, it means there are two versions of a saved game available.

    • If you last played the game on this console, you should probably choose the local game save.
    • If you last played the game on another console with cloud storage turned on, you should probably choose the cloud-saved game save.

  • Can't enable cloud storage just yet

If you get this message, here's what to do:

    1. From the Xbox Dashboard, go to settings, and then select System.
    2. Select Storage, and then select your primary storage device (for example, Hard Drive).
    3. Select System Items.
    4. Select Cloud Storage Console Copy.
    5. Select Delete.

Now, see if this fixed the problem.

  • Can't disable cloud storage because console copies of some items still exist

For information on how to turn off cloud saves, see Store your saved games in the cloud.

  • Sorry, only saved games can be uploaded to cloud storage

You can only upload saved games to cloud storage. Move all game related items such as achievements and DLC content to a local storage device, or delete them.

  • Your cloud storage isn't synced. Try signing out and back in again.

Sign out of your Xbox Live profile, and then sign back in. Then, see if the problem is fixed.

  • Can't download your saved games because cloud storage isn't set up on this console.

There is a game save stored in the cloud, but cloud save storage is not active on this console. To turn on cloud storage on this console:

    1. From the Xbox Dashboard, go to settings, and then select System.
    2. Select Storage, and then select Cloud Saved Games.
    3. Select Enable Cloud Saved Games.
  • Game not supported

A small number of Xbox 360 games do not support cloud saved games at this time. We continually work with developers to support this feature. Until they release a cloud saved games-compatible update to the game title, please use a local storage device (for example, a hard drive or USB flash drive).

  • 514 megabytes (MB) of storage space is required

Game saves in the cloud requires 514 megabytes (MB) of local storage space to store saved games before they are uploaded to the cloud. You need to free up 514 MB of space on your Xbox 360 Hard Drive or USB storage device. For information on how to do this, see Copy, move, or delete Xbox saved games, profiles, and avatar items.

  • Lost connection to Xbox Live or need a connection to Xbox Live

Your console lost the connection to Xbox Live. Check for service alerts at Xbox Live status, or see if there's an Xbox Live service alert at the top of this page. If there are any service alerts, wait a while and then try again.

If specific service or app is down, you can ask Microsoft to notify you when the outage is resolved. Under the app or service name, click Notify me when this service or app is up and running.

Note This service is available in the United States only.

To set up or use cloud game saves, you must connect your Xbox 360 console to Xbox Live. If you are having trouble staying connected to Xbox Live, see Troubleshoot Xbox 360 connection to Xbox Live or try the Xbox 360 Connection Error Solution.

  • Can't Retrieve Information from Xbox Live, Status Code 80072746

There was a problem transferring the file to your console due to a network timeout. This occurs when there is a service outage that prevents access to the cloud or when you try to upload a very large game file to the cloud. This interrupts all other pending cloud game transfers.

Check for service alerts at Xbox Live status or see if there's an Xbox Live service alert at the top of this page. If there are any service alerts, wait a while and then try again.

If specific service or app is down, you can ask Microsoft to notify you when it's working again. Under the app or service name, click Notify me when this service or app is up and running.

Note This service is available in the United States only.

To work around this error, try the following:

    • Try syncing again later when network loads might be lighter.
    • Move large files out of Cloud Game Saves. Some larger files that are not required for your game experience can be stored on a local storage device or deleted. For more information, see Copy, move, or delete Xbox saved games, profiles, and avatar items.
Note Deletion from Xbox Live cloud storage is final. Do not delete files that you need for your game save or other items.
    • Use a locally stored copy of the game save if you have one.

Microsoft is aware of this issue, and we are working on additional solutions.
