”Face obscured” or “Face not detected” Kinect error

Kinect face detection troubleshooting steps

If you see one of the following Kinect facial recognition messages, it means the Kinect sensor is having trouble detecting your face:

Face obscured (809B1004)
Kinect can't see your face. Make sure there's a clear line of sight between the sensor and your face and then try again.

Face not detected (809B1005)
Kinect can't see your face. Make sure there's enough light and that nothing is in the way and then try again.

To resolve this Kinect facial recognition problem, try using the Kinect Tuner. Learn how.

If you continue to see this message after running the tuner and recalibrating the Kinect sensor, please contact Xbox Support. See the Assistance section at the bottom of this page for more information.
