If the light on your Kinect sensor is red, the sensor might not be connected properly, or your console software might need updating. You might also receive the following error message:
The Kinect sensor has insufficient power (C0051202)
Here’s what to do to fix the problem:

Important Remove the power/USB adapter cable if your Kinect sensor came with one.
The light located near the middle of the split cable should be green.

No green light? Try plugging the cable into another outlet to make sure the cable is working properly. If you still do not see a green light, your cable needs to be replaced. You can order a replacement cable from the Xbox Online Service Center (sign in with your Microsoft account). Console registration may be required.
If these solutions do not solve the problem, the sensor needs to be repaired. To learn about the repair process, go to How to get your Xbox product repaired.
