Fix "USB bandwidth exceeded" and "USB connection problem" errors with Kinect on Xbox 360

You see one of the following error messages when you try to use your Kinect sensor for Xbox 360:

USB bandwidth exceeded. (C0051010)

There's a USB connection problem. (C0051011)

Solutions

To resolve these problems, try disconnecting and then reconnecting your Kinect sensor and Xbox 360 console. Here's how:

  • Xbox 360 E console
  1. Turn off the console.
  2. Unplug the Kinect sensor and any USB accessories from your console.
  3. Plug the sensor cable into the AUX port on the back of the console.

Important Remove the power/USB adapter cable, if your Kinect sensor came with one.
  1. Turn on the console.
  2. One by one, plug each USB accessory back into the console to see if one of the accessories causes the problem. If you continue to see the USB error message, you might need to reduce the number of accessories attached to the console.
  • Xbox 360 S console
  1. Turn off the console.
  2. Unplug the Kinect sensor and any USB accessories from your console.
  3. Plug the sensor cable into the AUX port on the back of the console.

  3. Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a working electrical outlet, and that the Kinect USB connector is plugged into the back of the console.
