Extension cables and USB hubs with the Kinect sensor
Connecting your sensor
The Kinect sensor cable should be directly connected to the back of your Xbox 360 console. Do not use a USB hub or USB extension cable to connect the Kinect sensor to your console. Learn how to connect your sensor.
- If the sensor cable is not long enough for your conditions, you can use a Microsoft licensed extension cable.
Using a wireless network adapter with the original Xbox 360 console

To use a wireless adapter if you have a Kinect sensor:
- Attach the wireless adapter to the back of the console.
- Connect the wireless adapter cable to the extension cable.
- Plug the extension cable into a USB port on the front of the console.
This cable is included with most Kinect sensors. If you need one, you can order an Xbox 360 Kinect Extension Cable.
Using an Xbox 360 HD DVD Player
- Unplug the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player from the back of your Xbox 360 console, and then plug it into a USB port on the front of the console.
- Do not plug the Kinect sensor cable into the back of your Xbox 360 HD DVD player.
