Watch Xbox Video on Xbox 360

When you buy or rent a movie or TV show on Xbox Video, it's available in your collection and follows you from device to device. You can watch it on Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, Xbox One, Xbox 360, Windows Phone 8, or at XboxVideo.com.

Watch Xbox Video on an HDTV or HD monitor

HD viewing

To watch high definition (HD) videos in HD quality on an HDTV or HD monitor from your Xbox 360 console, download the video from the Xbox Video Store to your Xbox 360 console. Then, play the video on your HDTV or HD monitor using one of the following:

  • HDMI cable
  • Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable
  • Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable

SD viewing

You can watch standard definition (SD) videos on most TVs and monitors by outputting the video from an Xbox console using one of the following:

  • Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable
  • Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable
  • Xbox 360 Composite AV Cable or Xbox 360 S-Video AV Cable
  • Notes

    • The cable that you must use depends on the AV input ports on your TV or monitor.
    • Several factors affect the resolution you see when you watch a video that you buy or rent from the Xbox Video Store, including the image quality of the video itself (HD or SD), the capabilities of the player, the cable used to transmit the video signal from the device to the screen, and the capabilities of the TV or monitor.

Buy or rent once, watch whenever and wherever you like

You can rent or buy a movie or TV show on one device, and then watch it on any device that has Xbox Video (such as Xbox One, Xbox 360, a Windows 8.1 PC, a Windows 8.1 RT tablet, Windows Phone 8, or XboxVideo.com).

Note When switching between devices, make sure you sign in with the Microsoft account under which the video was purchased.

Portable bookmarks

With portable bookmarks, you’ll never lose your place in a video when switching between devices. Portable bookmarks allow you to start viewing a purchased or rented video on one device, then move to a different device and finish watching right where you left off.

Note When switching between devices, make sure you sign in with the Microsoft account under which the video was purchased.
