If you cancel your Xbox LIVE Gold subscription before the end of the two-year subscription term required by the Terms and Conditions, you will be charged an Early Termination Fee (ETF) and any applicable taxes. Learn about the ETF and how to avoid the charges.
As part of the Xbox Console Bundle Promotion Offer, you agreed to a two-year subscription to Xbox LIVE, with a monthly fee of $14.99 throughout the two-year subscription term.
When you cancel the subscription before the end of the two-year term, you will be charged an Early Termination Fee and applicable taxes, unless you cancel the subscription within the return period allowed under the Terms and Conditions.
The table below shows estimated Early Termination Fees. The amount of ETF depends on how far into the two year subscription term you are when you cancel. For example, if you held your subscription for 6 months and 26 days, you will be charged an estimated $216.
Make sure your Xbox LIVE account is connected to a valid credit card
Your Xbox LIVE account needs to be continually connected to a valid credit card, or it will effectively be canceled, and you will be charged an ETF and applicable taxes. You can change your credit card but you have to add a valid credit card before you remove the existing one.
Note, prepaid cards, and PayPal are not valid payment options for the two-year subscription.
Return the console during the retailer’s return policy
If you return the console bundle during the timeframe covered under the retailer’s return policy, you will not be charged the ETF or any applicable taxes. Before you cancel the subscription, you must return the console bundle along with the receipt that includes the serial number to the retailer where you purchased it. Otherwise, you will be charged the ETF and any applicable taxes.
If you were charged an ETF after returning your console, contact Xbox Support using the Assistance information at the bottom of this page.
Continue on the Xbox 360 Entertainment For All Plan for the two-year agreement
If you pay your subscription fees for the entire two-year term, you will avoid being charged an ETF and applicable taxes.
You have several options for canceling your subscription, subject to the ETF:
If you cancel your subscription and are charged an ETF and applicable taxes, you will be charged on the day of the month that your monthly subscription fee would have been charged. Also, the ETF and applicable taxes will not appear in your purchase billing history. You will receive an email within 30 days that details the charges.
