Problem

If you get one of these messages and this error code, it means there may be an issue with the Xbox LIVE service or a problem verifying your Xbox LIVE account.

Solutions

To resolve these problems, try the following solutions:

  • If you're trying to download software updates for your Xbox 360 console: Confirm that the billing and payment information for your Xbox LIVE account is up to date and correct and that you have accepted the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use. Here's how:
    1. At Xbox.com, use your Microsoft account (formerly Windows Live ID) to sign in to your Xbox LIVE account (if you are not already signed in).

      Note You may be prompted to accept the new Xbox.com Terms of Use. Acceptance of the updated Xbox Terms of Use is required to recover your Xbox LIVE profile.

    2. Under your gamertag, click My Account.
    3. Select Manage Payment Options.
    4. Confirm that your billing and payment information is correct.
    5. Exit your Microsoft account.
    6. Restart your Xbox 360 console.

      Note You may be prompted to accept the new Xbox.com Terms of Use. Acceptance of the updated Xbox Terms of Use is required to recover your Xbox LIVE profile.

    7. If your console does not restart and request the new dashboard, you may need to update the dashboard manually using the instructions here.
  • If you're trying to make a purchase from Xbox LIVE:
    • Check the Xbox LIVE service status. If there are notices for Xbox LIVE or Billing, wait 24 to 48 hours, and then try again.
    • If you're trying to purchase an item from Xbox LIVE, wait for 24 to 48 hours, and then try to purchase the item again.
    • Verify that your billing account information is correct by using the steps in Change your Xbox LIVE account information.
