Overview of Xbox Music

Xbox Music app

The Xbox Music app comes free with Windows 8.1 and Windows RT 8.1. It allows you to purchase and stream music (as well as stream your own music) through your PC. If you have an Xbox Music Pass, you can also stream music through the cloud to your other devices.

Get more information about the Music app.

Xbox Music Pass

An Xbox Music Pass allows you to stream songs or buy music through your PC, tablet, Xbox console, or Windows Phone without being interrupted by ads. Read more about Xbox Music or get an Xbox Music Pass now.

Xbox Music Store

In the Xbox Music Store and the Windows Phone Store, you'll find great songs, albums, podcasts, and more. Some of it is free to play, download, or sample, but most items are available for purchase through the Music app in Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, and your Windows Phone.

For more information, see How to buy music through the Xbox Music Store for Windows 8.1 or Windows RT 8.1.

Downloading music

One of the best perks of your Xbox Music Pass is that you can download as much music as you want from the Xbox Music Store. After you download music using your Music Pass, you can play it on your computer and then sync it with a device to play on the go.

For more information, see Sync music, ringtones, and podcasts using my computer.

Streaming music

With Xbox Music and an Xbox Music Pass, you get access to millions of songs that you can instantly stream to your PC or tablet. And you can create and save playlists for easy access to your favorite songs. With an Xbox Music Pass subscription, you can stream music to:

  • Your Xbox 360 or Xbox One console.
  • Any computer when you use the Xbox Music app (must be signed in with your own Microsoft account).
  • Zune HD players and Windows Phones that are associated with your Xbox Music Pass.

For more about what you can do with your Music Pass, see Xbox Music Pass.

Stream your music with OneDrive

Whether you’re on your tablet, computer, phone, Xbox console, or web browser, Xbox Music lets you stream one of the largest music catalogs on the planet, plus your own personal music files. Just upload your music to OneDrive, and then fire up Xbox Music on any device and play all the tunes you love, wherever you are.

For more information about OneDrive and Xbox Music, see OneDrive Music FAQ and troubleshooting information.
