Play while you charge your Xbox One Play & Charge Kit battery pack

Overview

If you’re using rechargeable batteries, you can continue to use your wireless controller to play on your Xbox One console while they charge. Your controller will transmit all signals via the charging cable until it is unplugged. Once the battery pack is fully charged (indicated by a white LED on the charge cable), you can continue to stay connected to your console via the charging cable without using battery power or damaging your batteries.

To do this:

  1. Connect your charge cable to the charge port on the front of the controller.

  1. Connect the other end of your charge cable to a controller port on your Xbox One.
  2. Turn on your Xbox One console.

You can now leave your console on or turn it off. In both instances, the light on your charge cable glows amber to indicate the battery is charging. When the light changes to white, the battery pack is fully charged.

Notes

  • Once you attach the controller to the console, you MUST turn on the console for the battery to charge. You can then turn it off and the battery will continue to charge.
  • You can also charge your battery by connecting the controller and charge cable to any USB power source; however, charging times may vary compared to charging via the Xbox One console.
  • Other USB-certified cables can be used to charge your controller’s batteries. Again, charging time may vary compared to the charge cable provided.

Troubleshooting

If the LED on the charge cable doesn’t light up, here are some things to check:

  • Make sure your cable is properly inserted into both the controller and the console.
  • Make sure your battery is properly inserted. The battery pack is designed to only be inserted in one orientation.
  • Look at the dashboard to see if the battery is indicated and charging.

If your battery is still not charging and the cable and battery are properly installed, your battery may be at fault. See Troubleshoot the Xbox One Play & Charge Kit.
