The installation process stops at or near 0% when installing an Xbox One game from a disc

When you try to install an Xbox One game from a disc, the installation process stops at or near 0%. No matter how long you wait, the installation remains at or near 0%.

This issue can occur if the console tries to download an update for the game while the game is installing. If you're trying to download and install a digital game, see Problems downloading and installing a game or an app on Xbox One.

Solution

To resolve this issue, take your console offline, cancel the download, and then power cycle the console. After you successfully install the game, go online and let the update download.

Step 1: Use your console offline

Follow these steps:

  1. Scroll left from Home to open the guide.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select All settings.
  4. Select Network.
  5. Select Network settings.
  6. Select Go offline.

Step 2: Cancel the download

  1. On the Home screen, pull the right trigger and open My games and apps.
  2. Select Queue.
  3. Highlight the game you’re trying to install.
  4. Press the Menu button on the controller.
  5. Select Cancel.

Step 3: Eject the game disc and power cycle the console

  1. Eject the game disc.
  2. Scroll left on the Home screen to open the guide.

    Note Double-tapping the Xbox button will open the guide from any other screen on the console.

  3. Select Settings.
  4. Select Restart console.
  5. Select Yes to confirm.

Note If you're unable to access the guide or the console appears to be frozen, press and hold the Xbox button on the console for about 10 seconds until the console turns off. After the console shuts down, touch the Xbox button on the console again to restart.

Step 4: Install the game

After the console restarts, insert the disc. Follow the steps to install the game.

Note Make sure you do this before you reconnect to the Internet.

Step 5: Go online and let the game update install

  1. On the Home screen, pull the right trigger and press A to open My games and apps.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select All settings.
  4. Select Network.
  5. Select Network settings.
  6. Select Go online.

After you follow this procedure, if you still can't install the game from the disc, contact Xbox Support.
