How to designate an Xbox One console as your home Xbox

The first time you sign in on an Xbox One and save your password, that console becomes your home Xbox. The My home Xbox setting allows you to do the following:

  • Share games and downloadable content purchased from the Store with anyone else who signs in on your console. You can even share games downloaded as part of a subscription.
  • Share your Xbox Live Gold subscription with anyone else who signs in on your console.

You can also play downloaded games while traveling, or, in the event of a network or service outage, on your home Xbox. You'll need to ensure that your console is set as your home Xbox before you go offline. To learn more, see Using Xbox One offline.

If you have more than one Xbox One console, or if you sign in on multiple consoles, we recommend you designate the most frequently used console as your home Xbox.

Note You cannot designate more than one Xbox as your home Xbox. You can share purchased games and Gold with other users only on your home Xbox.

  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select All Settings.
  4. Select Personalization.
  5. Select My home Xbox.
  6. Review the information, and then do one of the following:
    • Select Make this my home Xbox to designate the console as your home Xbox.
    • Select This is not my home Xbox to remove the designation.

Can I change my home Xbox console to a different console?

You can change which console is your home Xbox up to three times during a one-year period. This period works on a rolling basis, starting the moment you change your home Xbox for the first time. For example, if you make your console your home Xbox for the first time on January 1st, and then change it two more times, on February 1st and March 1st, you will not be able to change it again until January 1st of the following year. The next time you'll be able to change it after that will be on the following February 1st, and then again on March 1st. Please make a note of the dates when you change your console to your home Xbox so that you'll know when you can change its designation again.

When you change home consoles, all device licenses for digital content will move to your new home Xbox. These device licenses will no longer be available on your old "home" Xbox.
