Use an Xbox One console as a guest

Overview

Xbox One owners can let guests use their console even when no family members are signed in. Owners can also make choices about the games and apps that their guests can use. If the owner has set up guest restrictions, only an adult in the household can change the guest account’s settings. Xbox One allows a guest to override these restrictions by entering the guest key provided by the console owner.

If you’re signed in as a guest on a console on which the owner is signed in, the owner’s privacy and safety settings will apply to your gaming session.

If there are multiple family members signed in, the console will enforce the most restrictive settings of the family members current signed in. For example, if a child is signed in, all users will be restricted to that level.

If the owner is not signed in, your experience will depend on any content choices that adults in the household have made about what guests can do on the console. If you use the guest account and try to access content that is rated higher than the account’s settings allow, the console will prompt you for the guest key, which will allow you to override these restrictions. Your host will have to provide the six-digit guest key.

Once you’ve entered the guest key, you’ll know it’s been confirmed when you see the content you were trying to access.
