When you try to play a game that's installed on your Xbox One, you get the following message:
Do you own this game or app?
If you have a game disc, insert it now. Otherwise, make sure you're signed in to Xbox Live. If you don't have rights for playing it, you'll need to buy it at the Xbox Games Store.
This message may occur if:
Solution 1: Check the Xbox Live service status
If you see any alerts here, wait until the service is up and running and try again:
Solution 2: Insert the game disc
If you purchased the game on disc, you must have the disc in the disc drive to play. Even though the game is installed on the hard drive, Xbox One uses the disc to verify ownership.
Solution 3: If the game disc is already in the drive
If you have the problem when the disc is in the drive, see How to troubleshoot problems playing a disc on your Xbox One for additional troubleshooting steps and information about how to request a console repair.
Solution 4: Restart the game or app
Note If the problem with your game or app is causing the console to be unresponsive, power cycle your Xbox One console using the steps in Solution 5 instead.
Solution 5: Restart your Xbox One console
If you switched activities on your Xbox One console, such as using another app or playing a different game, the game may be running in the background. To resolve this issue, restart your console:
Note If you’re unable to access the guide or if the console appears to be frozen, press and hold the Xbox button on the console for 10 seconds, until the console turns off. After the console shuts down, touch the Xbox button on the console again to restart.
Note To prevent this issue from occurring, quit the game before you switch activities on your Xbox One console.
Solution 6: If you purchased the game
If you purchased the game as a digital download, make sure that you're signed in to the console using the same account you used to purchase the game. Also, make sure that the console is connected to Xbox Live. If you keep experiencing the problem, contact Xbox Support.
Solution 7: If someone else purchased the game
If someone else originally purchased the game, make sure that they've signed in to the console using the same account they used to purchase the game. Or, make sure that they've set the console as their home Xbox. For more information, see About My home Xbox.
If none of the above options are available, or if you just want to have your own copy of the game, purchase a digital copy in the Xbox Store. You won't have to reinstall the game before you can play.
