Why can’t I send messages?

To find out, try this:

  1. On your PC, sign in at enforcement.xbox.com to see if your account is suspended or your Xbox is banned from Xbox Live. This could be why you can’t send messages.
  2. If your account and console are in good standing, sign in at account.microsoft.com.
  3. When you see the dialog that begins “Call us overprotective,” choose the option “I can’t verify my account.”
  4. Add your phone number, then choose “Verify phone via text.”
  5. On your phone, respond to the text message.
  6. Then, on your Xbox, sign out and sign back in.
