Your Windows Live ID is your Microsoft account

Every Xbox LIVE account has a Microsoft account associated with it

Microsoft account is the new name for what used to be called Windows Live ID – it’s the email address and password you use to sign in to Microsoft services (including Xbox LIVE). Your Xbox LIVE account sign-in and password have not changed, but you will be asked for your Microsoft account in places where you’re used to being asked for your Windows Live ID. For more information about this change, see What is a Microsoft account?

How to manage or change your Microsoft account/Windows Live ID

If you want to change the password for your Microsoft account (Windows Live ID) or change the Microsoft account associated with your Xbox LIVE account, see Manage your Microsoft account for help.
