Use Network Settings on your Xbox 360 console to set up your connection to a network and Xbox LIVE.
Accessing Network Settings
To access your network settings:
- In the Xbox Dashboard, go to Xbox 360 and open System Settings.
- Select Network Settings, Configure Network.
Basic Settings
The first tab in Network Settings contains your console's IP and DNS settings. If you're using a wireless connection, it also contains your wireless settings.
IP Settings
These are the settings that your console uses to identify itself and connect to your network. If you choose Automatic, each of these settings is automatically populated. If you choose Manual, you set each one individually. The settings include:
- IP Address
- Subnet Mask
- Gateway
DNS Settings
These are the settings that your console uses to find other devices on your network and the Internet. Choose Automatic to obtain these settings from your router. Choose Manual to set them individually. The settings include:
- Primary DNS Server
- Secondary DNS Server
Wireless Mode
You'll only see these settings if you have a wireless adapter connected. Use this setting to find and connect to a wireless network. The following settings are obtained from the wireless router:
- Wireless Mode
- Network Name (SSID)
- Network Type
- Wireless Security
Additional Settings
The second tab of Network Settings includes PPPoE settings, host name, and MAC address.
PPPoE Settings
You don't need to use PPPoE settings unless your ISP requires it. If your ISP gives you PPPoE settings, enter them here.
- User Name
- Password
- Service Name
Advanced Settings
You can set a host name and alternate MAC address if your network requires it. These settings are not required for most networks.
- Host Name
- Alternate MAC Address
Your console's hardware MAC address and wireless adapter information can be found under the Alternate MAC Address setting.
Note
To reset all of your network settings, on the Additional Settings tab, select Restore to Factory Defaults.
