We design Xbox game discs to work only with Xbox consoles sold in same region as the game discs. For example, American game discs only function with an American Xbox console, Japanese game discs only function with a Japanese Xbox console, and European game discs only function with a European Xbox console.
The following regions use the corresponding game encoding:

| • | Asia (Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan): NTSC-J |
| • | Europe, Australia, and New Zealand: PAL |
