When using your Original Xbox console, you receive the error message: "This is an Xbox Game Disc"

SYMPTOMS

After you put an Original Xbox game disc in your Original Xbox console, you receive the following error message:
“This is an Xbox Game Disc. Please put it in your Xbox to start playing.”

THINGS TO TRY

1. Turn console off, then on.
2. Clean the disk and check for flaws or scratches.
3. Erase saved game.
Note: Copy saved game to MU (Memory Unit) if available.
4. Try three other games, then this game again.
5. Try game on another console (if possible).
6. Replace disk at retail.
7. Repair Console.

Note: Using laser lens cleaners, or similar products, is done at your own risk, because their effectiveness and impact on the system have not been fully determined. Xbox cannot promote or recommend any type of laser lens cleaner for use with the Xbox.

How to clean the disk and check for flaws or scratches
1. Hold disk by the edges without touching the surface with your fingers.
2. Clean the disk with a soft, clean cloth, lightly wiping from the center outwards.
3. Do not use solvents or chemicals to clean the disk.
4. After the disk has been cleaned, check for noticeable scratches or defects on the disk. If found and not caused by normal wear and tear, then return to retail if still in warranty.
How to copy and erase saved games

Note: To do this, you will need an Xbox Memory Unit. Saved games should be copied to memory unit prior to having them erased.
1. From the Xbox Dashboard, select Memory.
2. Choose your Xbox Console.
3. Find the game in question and select the individual game, to the right, that you want to copy.
4. Press A to select Copy, then select your memory unit.
5. Press B to go back to the games list.
6. Find the same game and highlight the Game Title (you will not see the option to copy).
7. Press A to Delete the game title. Select Yes when prompted.
8. Repeat for all necessary games.
