While using the Media Center Extender (MCX) for Xbox, you may receive the following error message:
The Media Center Extender for Xbox has unexpectedly disconnected from the Media Center PC. The Extender requires a connection to the computer. The Extender might have been disconnected because of network congestion, a network disconnection, orbecause the PC has been turned off. Press OK to reconnect.

This behavior occurs if something disrupts the connection between the MCX for Xbox and the computer. Typically, this behavior occurs because of network congestion, a disconnected cable, or if someone turned off the Media Center Edition (MCE) PC .

Network congestion
Heavy use of the network bandwidth can affect performance with the MCX for Xbox. For example, multiple PCs downloading information or file sharing can cause network congestion.
| 1. | Make sure that no other devices on the network are using network bandwidth. |

Network disconnection
| 1. | Verify that the Xbox console is on the network.
