SUMMARY

This article describes the required settings you must configure on the Media Center Edition (MCE) PC to use the Media Center Extender (MCX) for Xbox.

MORE INFORMATION

The MCX setup process enables the following settings on the MCE PC:
Fast-User Switching: The Extender uses Fast-User Switching to connect to the Media Center Edition PC
Windows XP Welcome Screen: The Media Center Extender uses Fast-User Switching. This is only available when you turn on the welcome screen.
Remote User Connections: The Extender can connect to the Media Center Edition PC because the setup process creates a new user account on the computer for the Extender. Because the Extender is located away from the computer and connects using a network, you must enable the Allow Remote Users to Connect option.
Windows Firewall ports: Because the Extender is a device that connects to and can make changes to your Media Center PC, you must configure the Windows Firewall to open the firewall ports, or the firewall can prevent functionality.
Use the MCX Help file for more information. To access help on the Media Center Edition PC:
1. Click Start, point to All Programs, and then point to Accessories.
2. Point to Media Center, and then click Media Center Extender Help to view more information about MCX.
3. To locate additional help topics, on the Index tab type: firewall.
