CAUSEThis behavior happens if the device that you are trying to connect to the Xbox 360 console is not compatible with Xbox 360 or one of the following conditions exists: | • | The USB cable is not connected correctly. | | • | The USB cable is faulty. | | • | The USB device requires an external power supply that is not present. | | • | The USB device is faulty. | | • | The USB port on the Xbox 360 console is temporarily disabled by the over-current protection mechanism. | | • | The USB port on the Xbox 360 console is faulty. |

THINGS TO TRYTo resolve the problem, follow these steps: | 1. | Make sure that the portable device is compatible with the Xbox 360 console. The following devices are compatible with the Xbox 360 console:| • | Official Xbox 360 accessories | | • | Most USB mouse devices and USB keyboards | | • | Most digital cameras | | • | Many portable music players | | • | Many mass storage devices |
| | 2. | To find out whether a portable device works with the Xbox 360 console, connect the device to a different USB port on the Xbox 360 console. To do this, follow these steps:| a. | Turn the console off, and then turn it back on. | | b. | Turn the device off, and then turn it back on. | | c. | Connect the device to a different USB port on the console. |
| | 3. | If the device is compatible with the Xbox 360, try the following steps.| a. | Restart the Xbox 360 console. | | b. | Turn off the console, remove the power cord from the power outlet, reconnect the power cord, and then turn on the console again. | | c. | Disconnect the device from the USB port, wait five seconds, and then reconnect the device. | | d. | Disconnect any unnecessary devices from the console, and then test to see whether the issue still occurs. | | e. | Determine whether the USB device requires a separate power supply. Attach the power supply, and then see whether you still experience the issue. | | f. | Connect the USB device to a different USB port to determine whether the device works. If the device works when connected to another USB port, the Xbox 360 console may need service. |
