When you try to enter text on screen by using your Xbox 360 console as a Media Center Extender, the text is not displayed correctly

INTRODUCTION

Sometimes when you use an Xbox 360 console as a Media Center Extender, text that you enter by using the on-screen keyboard is not displayed correctly in the Media Center user interface. This article describes things that you can try to resolve this problem.

SYMPTOMS

When you enter text by using the on-screen keyboard of an Xbox 360 console that you are using as a Media Center Extender, the text is displayed correctly on the on-screen keyboard, but it is not displasyed correctly in the Media Center user interface.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if the language and region settings are changed on the Media Center computer after the Media Center Extender is added. This problem may also occur if the language and regional settings are not set correctly when the Media Center Extender is added.

THINGS TO TRY

Reconfigure the language and region settings. To do this, follow these steps:

On the Windows Vista-based Media Center computer

1. Click Start Start button, type intl.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
2. Click the Administrative tab.
3. Click Copy to reserved accounts.
Note If the User Account Control window appears, click Continue.
4. Select Default user account (new users), and then click OK.
5. Start Windows Media Center.
6. Click Tasks, and then click Settings.
7. Click Extender, and then select the Xbox 360 console.
8. Click Uninstall.

On the Xbox 360 console

1. In the System section of the Xbox Dashboard, select Computers.
2. Select Windows Media Center, and then press the A button.
3. Select Disconnect.
4. Press the B button repeatedly until you return to the System section.
5. In the Media section of the Xbox 360 Guide, select Media Center.
6. Advance through the on-screen instructions to obtain the eight-digit setup key.
7. Note the setup key.

On the Windows Vista-based Media Center computer

1. Start Windows Media Center.
2. Click Tasks, and then click Add Extender.
3. When you're prompted, provide the eight-digit setup key that you obtained from the Media section of the Xbox 360 Dashboard.
4. Complete the Extender setup.
