Change Your Console:

Create Your Profile

Once you position and connect your Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system, you'll be ready to start using it. Initial setup is simple: set your default language, create your profile, and you're off and running.

To begin creating your profile:

  1. The first time you turn on your Xbox 360 console you'll be prompted to set your default language and locale. You'll also have the option to set game ratings for your console. Use your controller's left stick and the A button to make your selections.
    Note

You can change language, locale, and other console settings (including time, audio, display, and automatic shutdown) in My Xbox, System Settings.

  2. When you reach the Xbox LIVE screen, you're given the option to recover a Gamertag or create a new profile.

Select Yes, recover Gamertag if you already have an Xbox LIVE account and want to migrate it to a new console. Select Yes, create new profile if you want to create an offline profile or get online with Xbox LIVE.

For more info about recovering a Gamertag, see Recover Your Gamertag.
  3. Enter a name for the profile.
  4. Choose an avatar to start with, then customize it. For more information, see Customize Your Avatar.
  5. Select Done and you're ready to go!
Note

To access Xbox LIVE, your Xbox 360 system must be connected to the Internet, directly or through a network, with a high-speed (cable or DSL) connection. To learn more, see Introduction to Networking.
