Making sure your Xbox prepaid subscription is valid for your country

Important changes for Xbox Live customers in Mexico and Brazil:

  • Starting February 28, 2017, the price of 12-month Xbox Live Gold in Brazil will decrease to R149 and, in Mexico, the price will remain MXN $999.
  • To ensure pricing for the Xbox Live Gold subscription service reflects the local market economy, all Xbox Live Gold subscription cards purchased from retail in Brazil or Mexico will now only be redeemable in the country purchased and cannot be redeemed in any other country.
  • If you are purchasing an Xbox Live Gold subscription card online, we strongly recommend that you purchase the card from the country that you live in to avoid potential issues.

Why is Xbox creating Brazil and Mexico-only Xbox Live Gold subscription codes for retail?

Country-specific Gold subscription cards allow us to ensure that the Xbox Live Gold service reflects the local market economy in which the Xbox Live Gold subscription was purchased and redeemed in.

For example, offering Brazil-only Xbox Live Gold subscriptions allows us to decrease the price of the 12-month subscription in Brazil and ensure that the service reflects the Brazil market economy.

Will Xbox be creating other country-specific Xbox Live Gold subscriptions?

Country-specific Gold subscriptions are under consideration for other markets.

How can I tell if I am buying a Brazil or Mexico-only code?

We encourage you to check the terms and conditions in the product packaging, and online retailer Xbox Live Gold product pages, which indicate if the code is redeemable in Brazil or Mexico only. You can also check with your local retailer.

If I don’t live in Brazil or Mexico, what happens if I redeem a Brazil or Mexico-only code?

You will receive an error message that the code is not redeemable in your country.

We encourage you to check the terms and conditions in the product packaging and on online retailer Xbox Live Gold product pages, which indicates if the code is redeemable in Brazil only. You can also check with your local retailer.

If the code I purchased is for Brazil or Mexico-only and does not work, how do I get a refund or replacement code?

If you encounter an error message that the code is not redeemable in your country, please contact the local or online retailer that you made the purchase from in order to obtain a correct subscription card. Refund/replacement policies may vary by retailer. 

What happens if I redeem a code from another country in Brazil or Mexico?

For now, you will be able to redeem codes from other countries in Brazil and Mexico, though you will not be able to redeem codes from Brazil or Mexico in other countries.

In the future, if we launch more country-specific subscriptions, you will only be able to redeem the code in the country it was purchased in. In order to prevent potential issues, we strongly recommend that you purchase subscriptions from the country that you live in.

Will Xbox Gift Cards purchased in Brazil or Mexico be only redeemable in Brazil or Mexico?

There are no changes to Xbox Gift Cards. If you purchase an Xbox Gift Card, you will continue to only be able to purchase content in the local currency denomination of the card.

For example, if you purchase an Xbox Gift card in the United States and redeem it, you will only be able to spend that amount in the United States marketplace.
