Use voice commands to turn your Xbox One on and off
One of the features of Xbox One is the ability to turn your console on and off by using voice commands. You’ll just need to make sure your power mode is set to Instant-on. It’s on by default, but you can check it in System > Settings > Power & startup > Power mode & startup > Power mode.
Using on and off voice commands with Cortana
With Cortana, you can use either a Kinect sensor or a headset for voice. However, turning on your Xbox only works with a Kinect. You can still turn it off with a headset:
- To turn off your Xbox with your voice, say "Hey Cortana, Xbox off."
- To turn it back on, say "Hey Cortana, Xbox on."
If you forget, any of these will work with Cortana just as well. Say "Hey Cortana…" and one of the following commands:
- "Turn off my Xbox"
- "Turn off"
- "Go to sleep"
- "Turn on Xbox"
- "Turn on"
- "Start Xbox"
Using on and off voice commands with the original “Xbox” command
You’ll need a Kinect to use the original “Xbox” command:
- To turn off your Xbox with your voice, say "Xbox, turn off."
- To turn it back on, say "Xbox on."
Using on and off voice commands with a digital assistant
You can now turn your console on and off by using voice commands with some of the most popular digital assistants.
To find out how to set up your digital assistant, see Set up Alexa as a digital assistant for Xbox One or Set up Cortana as a digital assistant for Xbox One. For info on what to say to control your Xbox One with a digital assistant, see What can I say using Alexa and Cortana as digital assistants on Xbox One?
Note Voice commands are not available in all regions. For a list of Xbox One features and the regions where they're available, see Xbox One Feature Availability.
