The Xbox One Kinect Sensor uses a microphone to hear your voice commands. The key to a great experience is making sure your Kinect sensor can hear you. This article describes how to troubleshoot issues with the Kinect microphone when you try to use voice commands.
Note Xbox One voice commands are not available in all regions. To find out if voice options are available in your country or region, see Xbox One Feature Availability. Check the Premium/Natural Voice (including "Xbox On") feature to see if it's available in your locale.
Consider the following points when you adjust the Kinect microphone or configure your play space:
If you're having trouble within a specific game or app, view the game or app's tutorial or try to calibrate the Kinect sensor from within that game or app.
If you find you're still having problems with a specific game, go to the Xbox One Games forums for tips and help from the community.
If you're having trouble getting your Kinect sensor to recognize voice commands, try the following.
Verify that your Kinect sensor is on
Restart your console
Note If you're unable to access the guide or if the console appears to be frozen, press and hold the Xbox button on the console for 10 seconds, until the console turns off. After the console shuts down, touch the Xbox button on the console again to restart.
Calibrate the Kinect microphone
Before you start the procedure:
During the audio check, the sensor checks the background noise in your play space. If there isn't too much background noise, the system automatically goes to the next step. If there is too much background noise, minimize the noise and then run the audio check again.
During the audio check, the sensor plays several tones to determine speaker placement, and the system displays a screen when it calibrates the microphone. This may take a few seconds.
If you continue to experience the problem, request a Kinect sensor repair at Device service and repair. Console registration is required to replace the sensor.
