You can't switch to party chat on Xbox One

If you can't switch from in-game chat to party chat on your Xbox One console, it may indicate that there's a problem with the Xbox Live service or your network connection.

    Solutions

Solution 1: Check Xbox Live status

If you see any alerts here, wait until the service is up and running and try again:

Xbox Live Core Services: up and running
    2019-02-16T10:54:30.5645959+00:00

Solution 2: Check the network statistics

Check the statistics for your network. Here's how:

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select All settings.
    4. Select Network.
    5. Select Network settings.
    6. Select Detailed network statistics.
    7. Review the statistics. For help evaluating the information, see Network settings on Xbox One.

Solution 3: Have everyone in the party test their Xbox Live connection

Someone in your party might have a Network Address Translation (NAT) problem. To find out, have everyone test their connection. Here's how:

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select All settings.
    4. Select Network.
    5. Select Network settings.
    6. Select Test network connection.

    Notes

    • If someone has a NAT indication in network settings, have that person try the Xbox One Multiplayer Game Solution.
    • If you're seeing more than 5-percent packet loss, you may want to troubleshoot your connection using the Xbox One Slow Performance Solution.

Solution 4: Restart your Xbox One console

    1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide. .
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Select Restart console.
    4. Select Yes to confirm.

Note If you're unable to access the guide, or if the console appears to be frozen, press and hold the Xbox button on the console for 10 seconds, until the console turns off. After the console shuts down, touch the Xbox button on the console again to restart.

Solution 5: Try a wired connection

If you're currently using a wireless connection, try using a wired connection instead.

If you can start party chat when you use a wired connection, see the Networking Hardware Information section of the Xbox Forums, or contact your router's manufacturer for information about how to configure the wireless settings on the router.
