Service outage message occurs when you try to play a game

If you receive a message saying that the service is down when you try to play a game on your Xbox One, the problem might be related to Xbox Live maintenance or a service outage.

Solution

Check the Xbox Live service status. If you see any alerts here, wait until the service is up and running and then try again:

Social and Gaming: up and running

To play your game as a single player during service maintenance, set your Xbox to offline. To do so, press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide, and then go to System > Settings > General > Network settings > Go offline.
