Error 80169cf9 occurs when redeeming an Xbox Live Gold digital code
You see the following error code and message when you try to redeem an Xbox Live Gold subscription digital code:
80169cf9
The payment option can't be used for this purchase. Please select a different payment option or add a new one.
This error message occurs when you have an active subscription but auto renewal is turned off, and the payment option used to purchase that subscription is no longer associated with it or has been removed from your account.
Solution
Because the payment option has been removed from your current subscription, you will not be able to add a digital code or token while your subscription is still active. You must wait until your subscription has ended to redeem the token. Subscription tokens do not expire.
To find out when your subscription will end, sign in to your Microsoft account and select Services & subscriptions to view the end dates for your current subscriptions.
