Xbox Live Gold subscription changes FAQ

As of February 18, 2016, the price of Xbox Live subscriptions will be increasing. If your subscription is currently set to renew automatically before February 18, 2016, you’ll be charged the current price at the time of your next scheduled auto renewal. If your subscription is currently set to renew automatically after February 18, 2016, you’ll be charged the new price at the time of your next scheduled auto renewal.

Why did you change the price of the Xbox Live Gold subscription?

Occasionally, we update pricing in a given market to address shifting market conditions—for example, material fluctuations in currency value. We do so keeping in mind that our goal is to offer our subscribers premium gaming and entertainment service at a fair price. In this case, we’ll be updating Xbox Live Gold pricing in a small number of markets. We’ve notified subscribers whose accounts are on auto renewal in those markets so that they’re aware well in advance of the price change.

If my subscription just renewed at the higher price, can I cancel it and get a refund?

We’ll be letting members close to their renewal date know about the changes ahead of time so they can choose to continue the subscription or turn off auto renewal. However, if you’d like to cancel your subscription that just renewed at the higher price, contact support and we can offer you a refund.

I have a prepaid subscription. Will those prices increase?

Prepaid subscriptions are not renewing subscriptions, so you won’t pay the new price until you purchase a new prepaid subscription.

If I decide to cancel my subscription, what happens to my previously downloaded Games with Gold games?

If you have an Xbox 360, the games you downloaded as part of Games with Gold are yours to keep. If you have an Xbox One, you’ll no longer be able to access your Games with Gold titles if you cancel your subscription. However, if you decide to renew your subscription at any time, you’ll be able to access and play your previously redeemed Games with Gold titles again. Why are you making the change in this region? Are you changing the prices for other regions as well?

We believe this model suits the way our customers want to pay for Xbox Live Gold subscriptions in your region. We are always listening to customer feedback but have nothing to share about other markets at this time.
