How to customize an Xbox One Wireless Controller with the Xbox Accessories app
If you want to customize an Xbox Elite Wireless Controller, see Use the Xbox Accessories app to configure your Xbox Elite Wireless Controller.
How to get the app
The Xbox Accessories app comes pre-installed on the Xbox One S, Xbox One X, and original Xbox One console. Go to My games & apps and search for Xbox Accessories.
How to configure your controller
When you open the Xbox Accessories app, you'll see your controller and a button to configure it. Select Configure to get started.
You have two ways of changing buttons. You can either use the dropdown menu to select the button you want to change, and then select the corresponding button that you want to remap it to, or you can hold down the button you want to change, and then press the button you want it to be.
The image of the controller will always show your configuration. If you're changing a lot of buttons, you can see your new configuration all at once. If your controller is not yet customized and is using the factory default settings, you won’t see any changes here.
If you have more than one Xbox controller connected, you'll see them all when you open the Xbox Accessories app. Move right and select the controller you want to customize. If multiple users are signed in, the assigned profiles will appear above the controller.
Always keep controls assigned for the A and B buttons or you won’t be able to use your Xbox. You can customize your controller in any other way.
How to reset your controller to default settings
- Select your controller in the app and choose Configure.
- Select Restore defaults. This will return your controller to its original factory configuration.
