Xbox 360 controllers, headsets and wireless accessories

Wireless controller can't connect or disconnects frequently

Wired controller doesn't work

Disconnect and firmly reconnect the controller's USB connector to the console connector.

For more information, including troubleshooting tips, see Connect a controller to your Xbox 360. If this information doesn't help resolve the problem, your controller will have to be replaced.

Controller doesn't vibrate

  1. Press the Guide button on your controller.
  2. Go to Settings, and then select Preferences.
  3. Select Vibration.
  4. Make sure Enable Vibration is selected.

If your controller still doesn't vibrate, try updating your console software.

Xbox 360 Play & Charge Kit doesn't charge when connected to a wireless controller

This can occur for one or more of the following reasons:

  • The battery has reached the charge limit.
  • There is a problem with the charge cable.
  • There is a problem with the battery.

Try to determine which part of the recharging system is causing the problem.

Xbox 360 Wireless Controller

Try using fresh AA batteries, or try a different Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack in the controller to make sure nothing is wrong with the controller. If it works with different batteries, the controller isn't causing the problem.

Xbox 360 Play & Charge cable

Try a different Play & Charge cable to charge the battery. If the battery charges correctly with a different charge cable, the original charge cable is faulty.

Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack

  • Use a cotton swab and some isopropyl alcohol to clean the four gold contacts on the battery pack and on the wireless controller.
  • Try a different Xbox 360 Rechargeable Battery Pack with the charge cable. If the second battery charges correctly, the original battery is faulty.

Once you've determined the source of the problem, replace or exchange the faulty part.

Note Rechargeable batteries eventually wear out. The length of time that a rechargeable battery lasts depends on how frequently you use the battery and how frequently you charge it. If you use the battery frequently, it won't last as long as if you use it only occasionally.

Wired headset doesn't work

Disconnect and reconnect the headset firmly to the controller's connector.

If this doesn't solve the problem, see Xbox 360 Wired Headset troubleshooting.
