Error 8007274C occurs when downloading an update to your Xbox 360 console

    Problem

You see one of the following error messages together with error code 8007274C when you're trying to download an update to your Xbox 360 console:

    • Cannot process update.
      Status code: 8007274C
    • Some Xbox Live content is temporarily unavailable. You can still access your profile, communicate with other players, and play games online. The content will automatically appear when it's available.
      Status code: 8007274C

If you see this error code and one of these messages, it means the update failed to download to your console. Even if you’re not updating your Xbox 360 console, you may see the following message when you sign in, connect to Xbox Live, or enter or exit a game:

    • Some Xbox Live content is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.
      Status code: 8007274C

If you see this message and error code, it means there’s a connection failure.

Note The 8007274C error code may be preceded by four, 4-digit sets of characters that vary (xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-8007-274C).

    Solutions

Note If you are downloading an update, try the first solution. Otherwise, try the second solution.

Solution 1: Download the update again

    1. Restart your console.
    2. Press the Guide button (large central “X” button) on your controller.
    3. Go to Settings, and then select System Settings.
    4. Select Network Settings.
    5. Select Wired Network or your wireless network name (if you're prompted to do so).
    6. Select Test Xbox Live Connection.
    7. Select Yes if you are prompted to update your console software.

If you still experience the problem, try the next solution.

Solution 2: Check your Xbox Live connection

If you're having problems connecting or staying connected to Xbox Live, see Xbox Live: Connect to Xbox Live.

If you still experience the problem, try the next solution.

Solution 3: Make sure you have enough storage space

The latest console software update requires at least 190 megabytes (MB) of storage space (or 256 MB if you live in Japan). If you don’t have enough free space, you need to move or delete some items. See Copy, move, or delete Xbox 360 content.

If you still experience the problem, try the next solution.

Solution 4: Clear the system cache

Removing the temporary files on your console might solve the problem. Follow the instructions to Clear your Xbox 360 system cache, and then try downloading the update again.

If you still experience the problem, try the next solution.

Solution 5: Reinsert the storage device

    • If you’re using an Xbox 360 Memory Unit or a USB flash drive: Remove and reinsert the memory unit or USB flash drive.
    • If you have a hard drive: Remove and add the hard drive again.

After you replace the storage device, try downloading the update again.

If you still experience the problem, try the next solution.

    Solution 6: Reconfigure your connection

    • Wireless connection:
      1. Disconnect any third-party wireless headsets.
      2. Move the Xbox 360 console closer to the wireless router.
      3. Troubleshoot your Xbox Live connection.
    • Wired connection:
    • Warning The following steps lower your security settings and make your network less secure from attack by malicious users or malicious software. We do not recommend that you perform this procedure. However, we provide it for you to use at your own discretion. Follow these steps at your own risk.

      1. Temporarily turn off the modem’s or router’s firewall and see if you can connect to Xbox Live.
      2. If you can connect, turn the firewall back on, and then make sure the correct network ports are open on the modem or router. You can see the list of network ports at Network ports used by Xbox Live.

If you still experience the problem, try the next solution.

Solution 7: Copy the update to a USB flash drive, CD, or DVD, and then install it on your console.

If none of the preceding solutions fixed the problem, copy the console update from your computer to a USB flash drive, CD, or DVD, and then install the update on your console. Here’s how:

    • Copy to a USB flash drive
    • Note The USB flash drive must use the FAT32 file system.

      1. Plug your USB flash drive into a USB port on your computer.
      2. Download the update file.
      3. Click Save to save the console update .zip file to your computer.
      4. Unzip the file.
      5. Copy the contents of the .zip file to the root directory of your USB flash drive.
      6. Unplug the USB flash drive from your computer.
      7. Plug the USB flash drive into a USB port on your Xbox 360 console.
      8. Restart the console.
      9. When the console restarts, the installation program starts automatically. Select Yes when you’re prompted to update the new console software.
    • Burn to CD or DVD
    • You can also download the update to your computer, burn the update to a CD or DVD, and then install the update on your console. Here's how:

      1. On your computer, download the update file.
      2. Click Save to save the console update .zip file on your computer.
      3. Unzip the file.
      4. Insert a blank, writeable CD or DVD into your computer.
      5. Copy the contents of the .zip file to the root directory on your CD or DVD, and choose to write (burn) the files to the disc.
      6. Once the files have been burned to disc, remove that disc from your computer and insert it into the disc drive on your Xbox 360 console.
      7. Restart the console.
      8. When the console restarts, the installation program starts automatically. Select Yes when you’re prompted to update the new console software.
