Error 72-C00DF231 occurs when playing a downloaded video on Xbox 360

You see the following error code and message when you try to play a video on Xbox 360:

    72-C00DF231

You caught up to the download position in a partially downloaded file, and because of network problems, the video can’t be played while it is downloading.

Most video playback errors occur for one of the following reasons:

    • The format is not supported by the Xbox 360 console. See Supported regions, formats and discs.
    • The content is protected by Digital Rights Management. For example, sometimes content is only licensed for playback on a specific computer or device.
    • You’re not signed in to Xbox Live, or you’re trying to access content that’s associated with another Xbox 360 console. For more information, see Can’t play or use previously downloaded content on Xbox 360.

    Solution

To resolve this problem, wait for the download to finish, and then try playing the video again.

If you keep experiencing the problem, contact Xbox Support.
