"Secure HDCP link not found" error when you play a DVD or stream a Netflix film

You get one of the following error messages when your Xbox 360 console is connected to your display device by an HDMI cable, and you try to stream a film from Netflix or play a DVD:

    Secure HDCP link not found

    Secure HDCP link lost

This may mean that your Xbox 360 console can’t establish a secure connection to your display device by using the High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) protocol. This problem can occur for the following reasons:

    • There is a device between your Xbox 360 console and your display (such as a switch or tuner) that is interrupting the HDMI connection.
    • There is a problem with your HDMI cable.
    • Your display does not fully support the HDCP protocol.

    Solutions

To resolve this error, try the following solutions:

    Solution 1: Bypass other devices

Some home cinema tuners or AV switch boxes feature an "HDMI pass through" connection. This connection lets you connect an HDMI cable from your Xbox 360 to the tuner and then connect another HDMI cable to your display device. Some of these devices may prevent your Xbox 360 from performing a proper HDCP “handshake” at the start of video playback.

To test if your tuner or switch box is causing the problem, try connecting an HDMI cable directly from your Xbox 360 to your display device. If this resolves the issue, contact the manufacturer of your home cinema tuner or AV switch box.

Solution 2: Check if your display supports HDCP

Some displays allow HDMI cable input but do not fully support the HDCP protocol. Check the manual or website for your display to see if it’s fully HDCP compliant.

If your display doesn't support HDCP, use an Xbox 360 Component HD AV cable to connect your Xbox 360 console to your display device.

Solution 3: Replace your HDMI cable

If your display supports HDCP and you still experience the error with a direct connection to your Xbox 360, try using a different HDMI cable.

If this still does not resolve the issue, test the issue again with a different display device.

Note You can also use an Xbox 360 Component HD AV cable to work around the issue.
